Hair And Skin Supplements Essentials For Vegans

Blog

Anyone who is a vegan is going to have to be particular about their diet and the supplements that they take. It's vital that you understand the correct supplements to take in order to prevent deficiencies that can lead to hair and skin problems. The other thing that is challenging to vegans is that many vitamins and supplements are not designed for vegans. They might be derived from fish, or have other animal products in the material used to make the capsules. So, with that in mind, this guide is designed to help you figure out what exactly you need to get.

A Good B12 Supplement

Vegetarians and vegans all need to supplement with B12. It's one of the first things you learn when you start reading about health and wellness as a vegan. The reason is that B12 is found mostly in animal products.  B12 is important for not only healthy skin and hair, but it's important for proper mental functioning. The simplest solution is to choose vegan friendly B12 vegan skin vitamin capsules. You should not rely on a B-Complex vitamin, since these often times do not have the most bio-available form of B12. So, look for a subligual form of B12.

Vegan DHA

The omega fatty acids are always a concern for people who are vegans. They are found in the highest concentrations in fish. DHA in particular, is not found in nuts, seeds, or any of the normal foods vegans might eat. So, what you will want to do is locate a vegan friendly DHA supplement that is made with Algae. The omega fatty acids are essential for healthy skin. Make sure that you are looking for an Algae based DHA since so many DHA pills are made from fish oil.

Biotin

One of the most famous of all the B vitamins, Biotin is crucial for good hair. That's why you see it in so many supplements designed for hair growth. The tricky part is that you need to make sure you are not getting a pill that is made with animal products. Many capsules will have gelatin (which is made from animals, unless otherwise stated). So, if you are getting a capsule or gel cap, make sure you look for a vegan certification.

Alpha Lipoic Acid

This antioxidant can be used as either a cream or a pill. If you want to experience the maximum benefit, a combination of both is recommended. Just make certain that you are choosing a cream that is made without using animal fats. Likewise, if you are choosing a pill, make sure you get a capsule or gelcap that is made using vegan gelatin.

A Healthy Diet is Important for Healthy Skin and Hair

I was blessed with healthy, thick hair and perfect skin as a young girl. I went to college out-of-state, and I soon started to get acne and my hair started thinning. Everyone told me that it was likely due to stress, but to be honest, I loved college and found most of my first-year classes pretty easy. During my first summer home I put two-and-two together: my eating habits changed drastically at college. My mother always fed us very healthy meals, and my eating habits at college were so bad that I even ate cookies for breakfast sometimes! I found out my hair loss was due to lack of healthy vitamins in my diet and my skin problems were also caused by my poor diet. I created this blog to help other learn how their health, skin, and are all connected, and I hope you can learn a lot here!
